Why?

We are just a few weeks away from JM's arrival. This is only the first time that I have been able to bring a child back to us after one visit. The first time I did this with N and Y, the war started immediately after their return to Ukraine. And well.... because the war is still ongoing, and now three years later, N has aged out of the orphanage, Y is close to aging out and their youngest sister, S, will age out in about 3 years if my math is right.

This time around, JM will get to come and visit a second time. I have been so blessed to be able to have a connection with him and maintain contact with him as he stays in the DR. He is so excited to come. And we are excited to have him. The boys regularly ask when he will arrive.

As I thought about this post, I was thinking about Why? Why do I do this? Why do I continue? Lord knows that I have enough on my plate. But I started to think about all the different organizations and reasons people are involved in. Many times, please choose different organizations based on a tragic event in their life. A family member is diagnosed with cancer and they start to promote the different organizations available to raise funds to fight cancer. A co-worker develops a rare disease and their colleagues rally together to support a cause that is near to the co-workers heart and disease. These are all admirable.

I have been blessed to NOT have to personally deal with a tragic disease in my life; however, I do believe that it is my job to show my kids how BLESSED we really are. And we must do, not just talk about it. It is not just about talking about it, but it is about doing it, showing it and living it.

And so many of you have supported us on this journey and I cannot thank you enough. Without your support, I wouldn't be able to do this.

To those who have supported us financially - your financial support helps me make sure that I give JM some great memories. He really does view us as his family. And we are.

To those who have supported us physically (by watching my kids, helping with errands, etc) - it takes a village and I am grateful to have so many people who are able to help.

To those who have supported us through thoughts, prayers and words of encouragement - these MATTER. A smile, a card, a hug - you cannot understand the value that these carry and I am grateful.

JM will arrive in less than three weeks. We have quite a bit to get done (as always).
