Our summer adventures are about to begin!
I have been a bit quite on this front as I was never certain if this was going to happen. But, it looks like JM will be returning this summer!
Our family really connected with JM while he was here this past Christmas break. He definitely is on the quiet side (which is the complete opposite of our family LOL) but, he slowly came out of his shell and really became a part of our family.
Many people ask me why I do this? They say I have a lot going on (I do). I have too much on my plate (I do). Whatever reason people think I should not do this (which for the most part, I agree), I just keep thinking back to these kids. They never asked to be born. But they become a part of society that believes that should be born but then often disregards them. All of the following information I was told recently and I have no reason not to believe that it is true.
JM was dropped off at the orphanage at the age of 3. His parents died at the age of 5. He has not other family, no siblings. He is now 15 years old. He has been there for over 12 years. He has been looked over for more than 12 years. Why?
- Girls are preferred as they are perceived as less rowdy, easier to manage and raise. (https://newbeginningsadoptions.org/why-do-adoptive-parents-prefer-girls/#:~:text=It%20has%20been%20speculated%20that,dirty%2C%20and%20hard%20to%20handle.)
- Older boys are perceived as more difficult to raise due to their trauma and mental challenges. (https://llabona.com/why-arent-teens-adopted/#:~:text=Adoption%20specialists%20believe%20the%20problem,a%20family%20above%20anything%20else.)
- JM is also quiet, he blends into the background, doesn´t stand out.
None of these reasons are his fault. Are they my problem to solve? No. But... I can and because of that, I do feel like I should. And that is why I am here.
So... if you would like to help support me, please consider a financial donation. If you are unable to support me financially, please consider sharing/following my blog. Orphan care and support is important and the more people know, the more help we can provide.
JM hopefully will be arriving the week of Jun 15. Please follow us along on our journey this summer! We have so many things to do in such a short amount of time! AND JM turns 16! What an amazing gift!
